Our dog Sheena is a Cocker Spaniel mix. She was born with a heart defect that is common to Cocker Spaniels, and has lived her 12 years with this defect. It has finally caught up to her however, and her heart has become enlarged, slowly getting weaker day by day.
Our beloved dog, Sheena, is dying.
In the words of our veterinarian, "Every day is a gift".
She is still happy, rolling in the snow, greeting us by wagging her tail so hard we think it might actually pop off and fly across the room, teaching our other dog and our cat who is the boss.
Recently we went to her veterinarian appointment to view x-rays of how enlarged her heart has become. Her abdomen has filled with fluid making her look fat, so we have started calling her "Tootsie Pop". She is brown, round, and sweet.
The doctor was sure to let us know, again, that each day we spend with her is a gift, that the heart could give at any time.
Upon hearing this, my 11 year old says: "Want to know one thing that is good about her heart being so big? There is more room in there for us."
I think I have something in my eye.

It amuses me to watch the monkey suited morons, the media pundits try to label the Occupy movement. Is it left or right wing? Is it Democrat or Republican? What is the message? It seems the media whores must label it to sell the story. It keeps them in suits, ties, hair gel and makeup.
The truth is, there is no label. It is Democrat and Republican, it is left and right, gay or straight, it is We, The People.
We have become tired of the 1% who will stop at nothing to ensure they have money and power. The ones who live off us. Who use loopholes rather than pay. The ones without scruples who will jail a man for copyright infringement for years, but let a child rapist walk free. The ones who charge us for EVERYTHING they can such as use of an ATM.
There is no message. Take notice arrogant, greedy, unscrupulous power mongers who have turned this once majestic country into a ridiculed 2nd tier shadow of glory. Your time is over. This is the beginning of the end for you.
We, the people, wish to return our great nation to what it once was. A beacon in a dark world, hope and freedom. We wish to once again be able to say “United States of America” with pride.
We are the 99%.
I was working on a support guide with my supervisor at my corporate job, in my little cubicle. Stargate Internet. There was a small commotion, someone talking about something happening on the TV. I paid it no mind until they brought a small, over-the-air only TV from the break room and put it on ABC in the conference room.
I thought it was a prank. I thought it was a movie. It looked like movie effects with all the papers in the air.
Then we all simultaneously fell silent. This was real.
Tears began to roll down my face as I watched the suffering and terror unfold for those in NYC, Washington DC, and Shanksville PA.
There was a neighborhood cat our friends across the street called "Baby". They were teaching her about the house so to be able to bring her in during the winter. De-clawed, spayed, left outside by her owner who didn’t want her anymore.
Today, one of the arrogant Titusville elite was doing about 50mph in our 25mph neighborhood, and hit Baby. A blow to the head that popped her eyeball out into the street. Baby, whom we were petting last night, tried to meow during the 15 minutes of agonizing, twitching pain it took her to die. Our neighbors and I rushed her to the vet, still twitching in the box, covered in blood, as my daughter cried.
It was too late.
The driver? Too in a hurry, too arrogant, too stupid, or too worried about his/herself to stop. Probably on the phone. Just kept on speeding away.
There are MANY children in this neighborhood. There are two new little toddlers one house over across the street. This could have just as easily been one of them.
You are nothing. A lowlife, puff chested Peacock. Until you have compassion, respect for the law, our community and things around you, you will be looked down upon, whispered about, and despised. Sad that you won’t notice or care how people really think about you, as long as you can continue to put on airs and show people how much you matter in Titusville, how important you think you are.
You, and others like you, people that speed in our streets, park the wrong way, feel that you always have the right to go first, law or decency be damned, you have ruined this beautiful community. More so than the meth users and drug addicts that have appeared in recent years.
